Location, Costumes, props

Location
The current location seen above is located in Kirkby in Ashfield, Southwell Lane. The location is very run down and unattended. it has over grown bushes, graffiti and an abandoned train track. This type of location adds to the realism of out film being post apocalyptic. this all adds to our genre choice.

The location is easily accessible for all mambers of the filming which also makes the location better for us all, and due to this area being our number 1 place to film its very beneficial for us all.
We are hoping to film when its just begging to turn dark, but so we still have light, this is because we are planning to use flares so they will look best when there glare is reflecting onto us, this will add to the affect that light is our main life source, and shows life.
Costumes

Costumes
The costumes we are using have been chosen to match the location and mimic the weather, this will enhance the feeling shown by the characters and prove a more realistic lost feel and sense of the end of life as we currently know it, our characters are very specific and there costumes have had a lot of thought go into then, such as the gas mask helmet this will add to the feel of the world ending as the gasmask shows the main object to life at its current state, the gasmask will be a large figure in our film and will be focused on a lot through out.

All characters will dress in distressed clothing to show the fight they've had to go through before our film, this will add to the unknown stories each character went through before there seen on film , which gives the affect of survival is hard at the current time,which makes the audience begin to think of what they have been going through

Props
We are using many props, the first is  a flare, the flair will symbolise life and show a sence of security when in shot, this will add to the feeling of apocalyptic and give a feeling of hope to the characters and audience
There will, also be the use of degreaded wepons this will add to the feel of the end of th world as they are using last resort equipment, this shows there on there last legs, this will add fear to the film as the audice are unsure how there current wepons can deal with there life style.

preliminary task

their are a couple of parts within my preliminary task that I am proud of and will include in the next video we make. I was very happy with camera angles I used as I believe certain low angle shots and tracking shots create strong appearances to the characters and clearly highlights there emotions for the viewer, also the music through out my video I believed was very powerful and help put across the characters feeling and current state, this is all done without the music overpowering the film but instead adds emotions to the clips.

whereas in my preliminary task their are a few features of I am displeased with and would change if I was to do the task again. One thing which I believe ruins my movie is that the amount of frames used within a single scene of dialog, this makes the film unrealistic and hard to watch. To overcome this error in my final film I will only use 12 frames in each section of dialog and extend it so that it gives more time for the audience to become immersed in my final product. Another negative about my film is the costume change between scenes, this was done because filming was done over 2 weeks and a few days the characters forgot to wear there clothing used in the previous scene, this can easily be overcome but can confuse the audience to why his costume keeps changing.

I conducted my research about the stereo type of many films, subjects, books etc, using the website YouGov Profiles, this provides me with detailed info about my selected option. For Example the average person who likes the book of Eli is male and on average is aged between 40-54 years. How ever some information is irrelevant such as it says there regions, favourite meals and favourite place to shop.

The variation in costumes is based on there genre, for example 'star wars' storm trooper costumes, this is a good example of sci-fi and futuristic genre as it portrays an advanced galaxy, this helps put across to the audience how advanced the film is and how they are commonly dressed which gives the film a scene of realness if we were based in that time frame. Also the ice white costume looks very futuristic which strengthens its genre category, of sci-fi. Also in sci-fi films they use a green screen so they are able to fully change the environment to fit the location which also in the picture used fully expresses my point as it shows many futuristic buildings and weather. Also to add to the realism in star wars, Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia) did wear a bra on set, this was demanded by George Lucas to add a more realistic feel to the movie because he understood that in space during that time period bras would not have been worn.

The Post Apocalyptic Genre: 

this genre mainly consists of scruffy worn clothing, for example 'The Book Of Eli'. Eli is seen to wear worn down clothes this is done to portray the effect of there current life, commonly life looks over with so the clothing tries to replicate this. also the barren location used also tries to make life look over with and the end, this adds the effect of world end.

Pan Movement:

A movement which scans a scene horizontally. The camera is placed on a tripod, which moves on a stationary axis point as the camera is turned, often to follow a moving object which is kept in the middle of the frame

Tilt Movement:

a movement which scans a scene vertically, otherwise its the same as a pan movement

Dolly Shot:

The camera is placed on a moving vehicle and moves alongside the action, generally following a moving figure or object. The camera may be placed on a car, plane mainly, but sometimes a shopping trolley(normally by inderpendent film makes in a budget) A dolly shot may be a good way of portraying movement, the journey of a character for instance, or for moving from a long shot to a close-up, gradually focusing the audience on a particular object or character.

Hand Held Shots:

Hand held cameras give a sense of realism, and they can make the audience feel as though they are part of a scene, rather than viewing it from a fixed position. this adds feeling towards the audience

Crane Shots:

Basicallyexcitement , dolly-shots-in-the-air. A crane , is a large is a useful way of moving a camera - it can move up, down, left, right, swooping in on action or moving diagonally out of it, and can give a larger view of the current scene

Zoom Lenses:

this can be done on either a moving or still camera, this means that the photographer can get a 'close up' shot while still being some distance from the subject. A video zoom lens can change the position of the audience, either very quickly or slowly, without moving the camera, this saves a lot of trouble for the film makes, and also adds a increased suspense feel and can add movement and excitement to the scene.

Aerial Shots:

An exciting variation of a crane shot, usually taken from a helicopter. This is often used at the beginning of a film, in order to establish setting and movement, this immediately shows to the audience the setting and the size of the current location.

Extreme Close Up:
this camera angle expresses the male is unconscious and is unaware of what is occurring which adds suspense due to him being in a coma, this angle is very closed to his face and adds the clarity of his expressions showing his severer discomfort and confusion because of his eyes slightly open showing he's stunned.

Establishing Shot:
this shot can be used to portray the sheer size of where his current location is or could also be used to show the loneliness of the character or how lost he/she currently is.


 Birds Eye view:

the birs eye view shot it to show the audience the current environment of the location which enables the audience to gain a different prospective of the scenery set up, this can give the viewer a first impression of the scene, and can also show the size of the location.

Point Of View:

this show the prospective of one of the characters or even animals. This shot is good as it places the audience in the position that the character is in so the audience can share his emotions and understand the current situation he/she is in.

 

Low Angle/High Angle:

This camera angle gives a sense of 'speeded motion'. Low angles help give a sense of confusion to the viewer. The background of a low angle shot will normally be just sky or ceiling, the lack of detail in the setting adds to the disorientation of the viewer. The added height of the object may make it look powerful and feared and insecurity to the viewer.

 

 Cutaway Shot:

this camera angle is used to take focus off of the main subject, and could be used to show his surroundings.

 



personal blog

Hey guys its harry here, and this is basically my life...
currently at this moment in time im 16 and in 5 days i'll be the big, 17, currently am at Ashfield school student studying 3 A levels consisting of Accounts, Business and Media of course. However I am planning to get an apprenticeship in either Accounts or in the Electronic sector. I'm still living at home with my brother, mum and dad and not thinking of relocating any time soon.

I am overall a very big fan of most films, but I dislike all types of anime films, they're all weird and make me feel different when watching them somehow, they're just not my type to be honest. However I'm a very big fan of  Four Lions, Prison Break and of course, SpongeBob. Netflix is also a large part of my life.

In my spare time I go to the gym regularly, and try and stick to a food plan but its not very successful to be honest. I also try and get out and play football but I would admit football is not my strongest sport...
I decided to pick Media because I'm very passionate about films and their making and feel it would be really interesting to me and beneficial. Honestly I use to be good at one sport, basketball, I was a regular start but due to many injures I sustained through sport, eg broken legs, ligament and cartilage damage, a broken elbow, which still to this day has resulted in a loss of feeling in the ends of my fingers, a broken nose and I've had too many stitches to count.
